When is the best time to file out your FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid)? The answer is as soon as possible. For the 2021-2022 school year, the FAFSA application is due June 30, 2022. However, the earlier you can fill out and submit the application, the better you will be financially. Why?

Limited Amount of Financial Aid

It’s crucial to submit your FAFSA as early as possible, as states and schools have only so much money available for financial aid. Some of the financial aid is only available on a first-come, first-served basis. If you don’t apply until spring, they may not have any funds to give you.

Increased Chance For Grant Eligibility

If you submit the FAFSA early, you increase your chances of getting grants such as college, federal, and state grants. Students who submit their applications between October and December of the year before the next school year get two times as many grants.

Work On Other College-Ready Tasks

As a high school senior, you’re already stressed out. When you fill out the FAFSA early, it’s one less item on your list to accomplish, and you can worry about submitting applications for colleges, apply for scholarships, keep up your studies, etc.

Easier Time Comparing Colleges

Colleges will use the information provided in the FAFSA to develop a financial aid award letter. This will make it easier for you to compare colleges – it’ll help you compare their costs and apply for other scholarships and grants.

Jump Start The Search For Scholarships

Companies or organizations that offer scholarships could request information from the FAFSA, especially if they have an early deadline. Be sure to fill out and submit the application early to start the scholarship search, which can lower how much loan money you will need.

Develop A Plan To Attain Other Financial Aid

Once your FAFSA is complete, you’ll begin getting financial aid award letters. This allows you an idea of how much more you will need to pay for college.

The award letter will include grant, scholarship and loan awards. The amount you get may be insufficient for your needs. You may still need money for textbooks and room and board. If so, you’ll need to find and request private student loans or outside scholarships.

It’s imperative to fill the FAFSA application as early as possible. The sooner you do, the sooner you will find out if you have enough or need more financial assistance. It will help you to develop a well-thought-out college financing plan.
